In this world, the people of Earth are continuously encouraged to emigrate offworld to begin a new life. As a way to coerce migration, a free android is offered to anyone willing to leave. These androids are so advanced but devoid of life that they are banned on Earth. It is the job of government sanctioned bounty hunters to kill these androids.
They look exactly the same as humans and are equally smart or smarter. He is a special or a chicken head this means that he is mentally challenged as a result of the radioactive dust.
Our main character, Rick Deckard, defines the human nature and the meaning of life according to this empathic ability. But throughout the story Deckard comes to learn that the line between human and android, between empathic and not empathic is much vaguer than he thought.
He comes across people that apparently have the ability to act without having any sign of empathy and he comes across androids who did feel empathic emotions towards other androids.
This has the result that he kind of has a crisis of faith and has to rethink his self, his whole understanding of life of the human nature and of what is alive and what is not; throughout the novel the author keeps flirting with this idea.
